Patrick Novotny papers
Zach S. Henderson Library Special Collections
This collection consists of the research files of Patrick Novotny, Professor of Political Science at Georgia Southern University. Materials include booklets, leaflets, newspaper articles, journal articles, and other published materials from 1929-2001. Subjects include environmental justice, 20th century Georgia politics, civil rights, and race relations.
The Patrick Novotny papers formerly consisted of three separate collections titled “Patrick Novotny: Where We Live, Work, and Play, Research Materials, 1973-1979,”“20th Century Georgia Politics Research Materials,” and “Contemporary Sources on the case of U.S. vs. Darby Lumber Co.” Each former collection is now listed as a series here.

This collection consists of materials relating to author and gemologist Percy H. Perkins. Materials span 1923 to 1985, and consist of architecture drawings for various significant buildings in southeast Georgia, including a six room schoolhouse in Claxton, GA, Pembroke State Bank, the Stadium & Athletic Field for Morris Brown College, the Women's Dormitory School for Officers’ Training at The Salvation Army Headquarters, Bacon County Elementary School, Claxton High School, and Evans County Training School.

Peter Zack Geer, Jr., papers

This collection consists of personal and professional papers of Peter Zack Geer, Jr. Materials span 1923-1967 and include documents relating to Geer's law practice, his service as Executive Secretary to Governor S. Ernest Vandiver (1958-1961), and as Georgia Lt. Governor under Governor Carl Sanders (1963-1967). The subject files contain information regarding the civil rights movement, race relations in Georgia, Julian Bond, Herman Talmadge, and Jeannette Rankin. The papers also contain the law files of his father Peter Zack Geer, Sr.

Richard W. Lighty Collection of Roland Harper writings

This collection consists of materials assembled by geneticist and researcher Richard W. Lightly concerning the professional career of Roland M. Harper covering the period from 1899 to 2018, with the majority of materials concentrated in the 1960s and 1970s. Materials include correspondences involving Roland M. Harper, predominantly featuring exchanges between Clermont H. Lee and Francis Harper. Additionally, the collection includes photographs, newspaper clippings, and various botanical research materials related to Roland M. Harper.
Select materials include correspondence between George K. Small and Marie Mellinger; a bibliography of Harper's published writings, 1899-1954, by Jack McCormick, an original copy of his publication On a Collection of Plants Made in Georgia in the Summer of 1900 (1901).

This collection consists of twenty-eight photocopies of Robert John Henderson DeLoach’s correspondence with Georgia Governer. Eugene Talmadge from the early 1940s, related materials including newspaper clippings, an inscribed copy of Deloach’s book on John Burroughs, photographs, glass slides, and an obituary are also included.

This collection consists of papers of Robert Lee Moore from 1892-1940. The bulk of the collection includes case files pertaining to Moore's legal practice in Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia, and as Solicitor General of the Middle Circuit Court of Georgia. The collection also contains clippings, printed material, and expense reports relating to Moore's campaigns for Solicitor-General (1912, 1916) and Congressman for Georgia's 1st District (1920-1924).

Robert M. Benson family papers

Spanning 1937-1969, materials consist of indentures, deeds, promissory notes, insurance maps, and other legal and financial records from the earliest years of Georgia Southern University, then known as First District Agricultural and Mechanical School; materials also include personal and professional correspondences from Charles E. Cone Realty Company to active and prospective tenants about owning land in Bulloch County, as well as a variety of local land plats, oversized maps, blueprints, and posters; additionally, there are photographs of prominent local figures and family members. A notable entry are newspapers detailing the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. A selection of World War II field manuals, travel literature, and business documents are also present.

Roxie A. Remley papers

This collection consists of the papers of Georgia Southern Emerita Professor of Art, Roxie A. Remley, from 1942-2020. Materials include professional and personal correspondence, journals, day calendars, photographs, and other unpublished materials related to Remley’s work with the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), later Women’s Army Corps, Georgia Southern College, the Statesboro First Methodist Church, and other local organizations. Examples of Remley’s artwork and framed prints are included as well as materials originally belonging to Georgia B. Watson.
