The Week: An Industrial, Financial, and Agricultural Review

This collection consists of typescript articles on letterhead titled The Week: An Industrial, Financial, and Agricultural Review. The articles cover topics related to public utilities (especially rural electrification), agricultural diversification and reform, economic development in Georgia, and the work of the Utilities Information Committee of Georgia, an alliance between businessmen and landowners formed in 1919 to promote economic development. Most of the articles are undated but content indicates that they were written from 1926 through 1928.

Third Reich Memorabilia

This collection consists of letters, magazines, and ration cards of the German National Socialist era. These items are from the mid-1930s to the mid-1940s. The items in the collection are written in German.

This collection consists of the University Status Committee of Georgia Southern College (later Georgia Southern University) records documenting their efforts to attain University status. Materials span 1970-1996 and include committee minutes, doctoral program proposals, handwritten and typescript correspondence as well as newspaper clippings.

Waddie Welcome collection

This collection consists of approximately 668 photograph slides taken by Tom Kohler and Susan Earl from 2006 to 2009. The subjects of the slides include artwork by Waddie Welcome in the Savannah area. Also included in the collection are CD disks and print photographs that supplement the materials found on the slides.

Walter J. Fraser papers

This collection consists of materials relating to Dr. Walter J. Fraser’s research for his published books. Materials span from 1988 to 2005, and include research materials relating to the writing of four books; Portraits of Conflict: A Photographic History of Georgia in the Civil War, Charleston! Charleston! The History of a Southern City, Savannah in the 2 Old South, and Lowcountry Hurricanes: Three Centuries of Storms at Sea and Ashore. Materials include typescript book manuscripts, handwritten and typescript notes, interview transcripts, newspaper articles, maps, photographs, and photocopied research materials including city and county court records.

This collection consists of correspondence from Wiley Nessmith to his wife, Martha Ann Nesmith written during the Civil War from 1862-1865. Also included are typed transcripts, published and unpublished materials on the Nessmith family, and correspondence between Franklyn Hatch and the Nessmith family concerning the letters.

This collection contains the papers of William Archer Hagins, Sr. from 1919-2005. Included within the collection are written letters, V-Mail, military documents, and legal documents concerning Hagins’ service in the United States Army during World War I and World War II. Additional materials related to the Hagins Family including William Archer Hagins, Jr., prominent American medical researcher, are included and consist of family photographs and genealogical research materials

Spanning 1918-1986, this collection consists of certificates and honors bestowed upon William Lawton Brannen from Governor L.G. Hardman of the State of Georgia, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Savannah Alee Shriners Temple, The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Georgia, The Kiwanis International Club of Georgia, and The Imperial Council of Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine for North America.

William M. Rigdon papers

This collection consists of the personal and professional papers of William M. Rigdon, Assistant Naval Aide to U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President Harry S. Truman. Materials span 1927-1991 and include correspondence, official military records, personal letters, news clippings, press releases, travel memorabilia, photographs, film recordings, and a personal diary. The collection also contains unpublished manuscripts and research notes related to the publication of Rigdon’s White House Sailor, along with documents pertaining to Rigdon’s career in hotel administration following his retirement from the U.S. Navy.

Spanning 1917-1959, this collection consists of twenty-four daybooks belonging to W. S. Miller, a merchant planter and cotton buyer from Rocky Ford, Georgia. Materials serve as the general store’s financial ledgers, including a detailed breakdown of the 1943 retail prices for several popular items.

Zach S. Henderson Library Special Collections
This collection consists of the transcripts, original cassette tape recordings of public speeches, lectures, and oral history interviews spanning from 1962-2007. Interviews were conducted and recorded by Georgia Southern University’s Department of History and Zach S. Henderson Library Special Collections. Those interviewed are mostly locals to Bulloch County and neighboring counties. Interviewees discuss their personal and family lives, historical events they were a part of, and circumstances surrounding their successes. The public speeches and lectures originated from an assortment of sources.
