Excerpt: This volume is an excellent revision of a fine, though outdated, handbook for college teachers, Erickson and Strommer's Teaching College Freshmen (Jossey-Bass, 1991). Much has changed since 1991, as is evident even in the gender-neutral title of the new edition. The authors have responded to those changes with new chapters, several expanded discussions, and many new resources.
