Teaching with Technology – Research
Abstract
Practicing nurses engage in teaching on a daily basis with patients, their families, and newer nurses. Pre-licensure nursing students learn principles of teaching in their coursework but may not have opportunities to practice these principles. Nurse educators employ high fidelity simulation (HFS) to teach both psychomotor and higher order thinking skills in a safe environment. Peer teaching in HFS provides opportunities for students to engage in teaching in a safe environment. Peer teachers report increased confidence in their own knowledge and skills. Peer learners report greater comfort with peer teachers and learning equal to that achieved in faculty led activities.
