Abstract or Description
Panel symposium presented at the 2019 Southern Management Association conference, Norfolk, VA.
This workshop provides a lively interactive space for understanding the relevance of the review process to scholarship, and developing skills as a reviewer and author that are transferable to any peer-reviewed outlet. Participants will hear from current editors of four management journals - Academy of Management Learning & Education, Group & Organization Management, Journal of Management, and Journal of Management Education – each of whom depends upon high quality reviews as well as well-written author responses to reviewers to inform their editorial decisions. Each will describe their own perspective on the importance of reviewing and reviewing best practices, including insights about their journal’s reviewing expectations and links between excellent reviewing work and author skill in responding to reviewer comments. In round tables with the editors, participants will have access to real examples of reviews and author responses across a spectrum of quality and helpfulness that will assist participants in developing their own reviewing skills and response to reviewer practices. Handouts will be provided.
