Abstract
This article presents insights learned from a pilot study in relation to emotion regulation. If emotion is closely related to motivation to learn, it is significant to learn how to promote emotion regulation in online learning environments where feeling of isolation and of alienation would impede students’ success in learning. The study learned that effective online learners are able to regulate their emotion. The article discusses students’ emotion regulation based on the five major families of the emotion regulatory process advocated by Gross (2007). Because of its importance in learning, promoting emotion regulation in online learning context should be in future research agenda for online educators and instructional designers.
