Abstract

Introduction: The global pandemic resulted in significant disruption in higher education, shifting towards online or hybrid education for undergraduate students, often finding this modality less motivating and engaging.

Methods: The dietetics faculty at James Madison University collaboratively integrated online best practices in developing engaging and supportive learning community within a large “Nutrition for Wellness” course, a prerequisite for Health Sciences majors. The faculty implemented online pedagogies/tools to enhance student motivation and connection, while strengthening learning community, using the “Community of Inquiry” framework.

Results: Course evaluations demonstrated a high degree of satisfaction with online pedagogies used to promote motivation and engagement.
