Abstract

Learning Assistants (LAs) are talented undergraduates who help to transform courses that they have already taken through active learning methods. Our LA program was established in 2016 as part of a NSF Noyce grant for pre-service, STEM teachers. Now it has become a campus-wide initiative, bringing together diverse communities of faculty and students. In this presentation, we’ll describe the program, and share how it developed from a grassroots STEM initiative to include a variety of disciplines and became a focus in the university’s effort to improve retention in high DFW courses.
