Abstract
Florida Gulf Coast University established a Learning Assistant (LA) program in 2016. LAs are undergraduates who work in active-learning classrooms with students facilitating discussions and encouraging deeper thinking. LAs take a pedagogy course during their first semester in the program. Initiated in the STEM disciplines, our program has now expanded into a campus-wide multi-disciplinary program. In this session we a) outline the program, b) present outcomes and impacts based on an analysis of student and faculty perceptions and c) discuss opportunities, challenges, and insights based on our experience.
