Transferring Knowledge Beyond the Classroom: From Literature to Film, Part II
Conference Tracks
Teaching Practices (Poster Only) – Analysis, synthesis, reflection, and discussion
Abstract
The ability to transfer knowledge from one type of text to another is a struggle for many lower-division, undergraduate students, particularly in the field of literature. In this poster presentation, I will share how students take what they have learned from reading literature and apply it to a different medium that they will continue to engage with throughout their lives – namely, film. By integrating films at the end of a sophomore-level literature course, students learn how to interpose terms and techniques that we’ve been using to study literature to “read” other, non-literary texts. This is part II of a presentation from 2019.
