Assessment and SoTL - Research

Abstract

Few studies have focused on assessment of the learning outcomes in methodological courses among social science students. The current study is proposed to systematically assess students’ self-perceived proficiency, aspirations, and competency levels in research methods in a CACREP-accredited doctoral program in counselor education. All doctoral students will be asked to provide responses on an anonymous survey, in additional to a series of cohort-specific focus groups to discuss their experiences in methods courses. To anchor students’ self-report, the content of the syllabi of all methods courses, together with the quality of students’ final projects in these courses, will be analyzed.
