Abstract

At the time of writing, Georgia Southern University Libraries (GS Libraries), along with the other 25 institutions in the University System of Georgia (USG), was transitioning from Ex Libris products (Alma and Primo VE) to FOLIO and a suite of EBSCO products; ultimately, that migration was not completed. One of the components in this transition was EBSCO’s New Publication Finder, which we envisioned as a replacement for GS Libraries’ A-Z Journal List. This review explores some of the capabilities, limitations, and potential of Publication Finder in the context of the library services platform migration, with attention to the user experience and functional changes that would have accompanied the shift.

Although the vision was for Publication Finder to replace the A-Z Journal List, it should be noted that ESBCO’s intention for the Publication Finder tool is as part of the discovery layer. The Primo VE-hosted A-Z Journal List is currently a subsection of GS Libraries’ online public access catalog (OPAC).
