Abstract
The beauty industry is known for its multi-billion dollar market, such as skincare, makeup, and haircare. As an employee in famous beauty stores, Ulta and Sephora, over the last five years, a bigger discussion has been brought to the table, being Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) . The scope of my study is to shed light and address what factors beauty industry corporations factor in and how customers view and value DEI in the beauty industry; in which my methods of surveying and focus groups support my claim that internal and external factors do play a role. My results found that social media is having a larger influence than other factors, being that influencers and ambassadors are getting paid to talk about a certain brand, but social media also opens the discussion of controversy that happens in the beauty industry as well. In conclusion, this study highlights current internal and external factors of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the beauty industry. However, being that it is a dynamic industry, other factors could potentially rise (or decrease) over the next 5 years.
