Abstract

The American people have, as of late, been up in arms concerning the issue of whether or not America should put boots on the ground in order to handle the ISIS crisis. Although the President has said no American boots will touch the ground while dealing with ISIS, the US military is less sure. People are now looking to Congress to pass a law authorizing military force. Taking into consideration the decision makers of this issue, Congress, the argumentation that surrounds the proposition supporting and opposing this issue will be critically analyzed by using the Toulmin model to diagram the arguments for and against the issue and research will be gathered to provide support for these claims. It will be done by correctly identifying the propositions that comprise the issue, describing (and diagraming, included as a figure in the appendix) the propositional argument in favor of the issue, describing (and diagraming, included as a figure in the appendix) the propositional argument against the issue, correctly identifying and describing the type of argument in the opposing propositions for and against the issue and identifying the critical decision makers and documenting their value hierarchy. This is an ongoing paper and will have further research, expanding the argumentation around the issue, by the time the convention takes place.
