Description

The move to teach general semantics has grown as humans have begun to recognize the thought pattern and process of language and perception. In our society of popular culture, the idea of general semantics is presented to the world in easily digestible mediums. Disney movies such as 1989’s The Little Mermaid and 1997’s Tarzan have presented palatable representations of general semantics to an audience that is new or unused to such a concept. Through the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis and the Semantic Triangle, the films can be used to teach general semantics to a new audience.
