Description

This presentation showcases student-led initiatives at MESE, a migrant equity organization dedicated to empowering and educating migrants and the Hispanic community about their rights and potential impact. Through a lens of community engagement, students have spearheaded projects aimed at amplifying voices and fostering social change. Critical thinking is at the forefront of these endeavors, as students analyze complex issues facing migrant communities and devise strategic solutions. They leverage their knowledge to organize events that educate migrants about their rights and entitlements, provide support to immigrant families, and equip individuals with tools for navigating life in America. Moreover, these projects serve as a platform for developing essential career competencies. Students cultivate teamwork, communication, and leadership skills while collaborating with diverse stakeholders and advocating for migrant rights. Central to the success of these initiatives is the application of language as a tool for empowerment and inclusion. Students effectively communicate with migrant populations, bridging linguistic and cultural barriers to facilitate meaningful dialogue and action. We highlight the integral role of student-led initiatives in advancing migrant equity and social justice, underscoring the interconnectedness of community engagement, critical thinking, career competencies, and applied language in driving positive change.
