Abstract
This paper was written to determine if there was a difference between the coverage of Flint, Michigan’s water crisis and Jackson, Mississippi’s water crisis and if the general news media changed the way they reported on environmental crisis in Black and/or underprivileged areas while also considering the way that framing theory could be applied. A total of 91 articles were coded across two different topics with there being 46 articles concerning Flint, Michigan and 45 articles concerning Jackson, Mississippi. I found a difference between how national, local and state news outlets covered environmental crisis in these situations. I also found that journalists may have changed when considering the socio-economic status with a slight change in the way racial issues were covered.
