Getting started with Educational Technology Research
Abstract
This panel session will be led by three educational technology scholars with 48 combined years of experience. Their experience spans multiple states, multiple institutions of higher education, and institutions of different Carnegie classification. They are journal editors, authors of peer-reviewed journal articles, edited books, and funded grant proposals. Each panelist has experience mentoring new faculty and/or doctoral students. The panelists will open this session with brief comments about common misconceptions regarding educational technology research and practice. Topics covered will include: educational myths such as learning styles and digital natives, and media comparison studies. Current emerging trends in educational technology research also will be discussed. Ample time will be devoted to a question and answer session where panelists and attendees can discuss attendees’ questions.
