Title: Likelihood of COVID-19 vaccination among primary school students in Hong Kong

Date: October 15, 2021

OBJECTIVES: Worldwide, many schools were suspended due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The rollout of COVID-19 vaccines for children is an important step in safely reopening schools. This study examined parental intention to vaccinate their children against COVID-19 and associated factors.

METHODS: An online survey was conducted to elicit the views and perceptions among parents of public primary school students in Hong Kong.

RESULTS: Among 349 parents, intention to accept COVID-19 vaccination for their child was 21.2%. Higher confidence in vaccines among parents, higher parent's education attainment, their travel intention outside Hong Kong and their intention to take flu vaccine this season were associated with their intention to accept a COVID vaccine for their child.

CONCLUSIONS: Strategies for improving child vaccination rates include vaccine promotion in schools, adoption of vaccine passports, and increasing public confidence in vaccines
