Abstract or Description

Using technology to facilitate an in-class, face-to-face discussion seems counterintuitive; however, using technology like Parlay can increase student preparation for and engagement in Socratic style discussions. This pilot study investigated the use of Parlay in a social studies methods class to see if the use of technology increased student engagement in whole-class discussions. Preliminary findings indicate that participation and engagement did increase throughout the semester; however, participants expressed feelings of frustration when using the technology.
