Abstract

This session will analyze the disconnect in discourse between sociolinguists and post-secondary English educators regarding utilizing code-meshing practices for speakers of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and will investigate the origins, intentions, and importance of integrating AAVE, highlighting the opportunities present in current post-secondary English pedagogical practices.
