The Transition to College Writing

Presenter Information

Lynne A. Rhodes, USC AikenFollow

Abstract

Student success in FYW is essential for retention and for success in subsequent courses. Self-reflection about the academic writing process and research practices can lead to that success. Using a series of questionnaires, surveys, and assessment prompts to help students on the threshold between high school and college assess both what they already know about writing and what they are learning, the presenter will share data that has informed students' self-assessment practices and encourage attendees to share their own strategies.
