Academic/ Professional Development - Research

Abstract

Developing a growth mindset among students is promising, but represents only part of the mindset picture. Instructor mindset about students’ abilities can also play a powerful role in student success. This presentation describes research related to the development and validation of an instructor mindset questionnaire and results of 2 years of new faculty summer orientation interventions focused on promoting a growth mindset. Dependent pre-post t-test analyses revealed significant shifts toward growth mindsets for the 2020 data; analysis of the 2021 in-person intervention is underway. We plan to provide time for discussion of the validation factors and extend invitations for collaboration.
