Abstract
Designed to help students understand how media inform sexual development, a pedagogical method titled “Sexual Socialization and the Media” was developed/administered within an undergraduate human sexuality course. Students selected/analyzed three forms of media: music, literary pieces, and film. Reflections were provided on scripting, communication, symbolism, stereotypes, and messaging conflicts. Results indicate high efficacy with the assignment receiving a score of 89.1% in terms of its “…usefulness in understanding the connection between sexuality and the media.” This assignment was helpful to students as they reflected on the role played by media during sexual development.
