Reimagining the educated mind: Letting student choice frame curricular design

About SoTL – Analysis, synthesis, reflection, and discussion
Abstract
Most curricular decisions rest in the hands of school specialists, instructors, and, too often, outside forces that mandate particular paths of learning. Changing this approach to one that puts student choice first and then melds subject area focus around that decision could go a long way toward re-motivating young learners and reimagining what they could accomplish. Humans learn innately based on specific and often interest-driven needs. We should use the same learning system to shape curricular decisions. This presentation will suggest how that might look by focusing on the themes and details of my recent book, “Reimagining the Educated Mind.”
