Abstract
Adult students make up a considerable percentage of the students in college classrooms, and while their needs may be similar to those of their younger counterparts, often these adult students face challenges not only with time and support but also academic deficiencies and an inherit set of needs related to their learning preferences as adults. Instructors who are aware of these challenges and options for better meeting adult students’ needs can improve learning experiences for these students. Considerations related to course activities to make them relevant to students as well as to allow self-direction and active learning are crucial.
