Abstract
The literature is clear: Homework management systems enhance student learning under some circumstances. What circumstances? Does the topic matter? Does student tenacity matter? This study of 917 online students measured subject matter effect by increase in exam scores for various topics. It measured student tenacity by how many students took advantage of all three homework attempts available to them. The results show the subject matter effect increased as the course went along, with the greatest effect on later exams. This correlated with steadily increasing student tenacity, as more students took advantage of all three homework attempts with each successive module.
