Abstract
A poster presentation will present a new, reliable and valid measure called the Student-Instructor Relationships Scale (SIRS) to attendees (copies of the measure will be available) developed by the authors based on a revision of a close relationship measure used in relationship research. The theoretical basis for the measure is presented along with data from two studies evidencing satisfactory psychometric properties of the scale (based on a factor analysis of the items with one sample and a test-retest study with another sample of college students). Instructors who wish to know more about student-instructor relationships will benefit from this poster as well as SoTL researchers seeking sound measures of study constructs related to teaching and learning.
