Developing A SoTL Community of Practice for Faculty

Abstract

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and the Center for Scholarship and Research (CESR) at Minnesota State University applied for a grant from the Strategic Priority funds set aside by the president of the university. Each year competitive proposals are selected for funding. For 2007-2008 CETL/CESR applied and received a grant to organize and develop a SoTL Community of Practice. The plan was to fund 12 participants with a $1000 stipend along with free registration to two teaching/learning conferences and one night at the conference hotel for each conference. Although CETL was founded 7 years ago, the CESR office is new at Minnesota State Mankato. This was one way to demonstrate that CETL and CESR could work together to aid faculty in SoTL research.
