Focused Interactive Learning (FIL) for Student Involvement, Interaction, and Learning
Abstract
The session will include (1) a demonstration of FIL, allowing participants to experience the social influence process that is critical to the technique; (2) a review of relevant research on student responses to FIL and effectiveness of the technique in enhancing learning, including a discussion of strengths and limits of the technique, (3) a small group exercise in which audience members will work in groups to design a FIL exercise for use in their own classes. Application of the technique across disciplines and teaching styles will be emphasized and participants will acquire the knowledge and skills to incorporate FIL in their own classes.
