Kathleen Cleveland-Kennedy is the Statewide Care Coordinator for the CACGA CSEC Response Team. Kathleen has been with the CSEC response team since October 2020. In her current role, Kathleen helps provides oversight of CSEC assessments and delivery of CSEC services provided to child trafficking victims. Prior to being with the CSEC response team, Kathleen spent seven years with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS). During her time with the DFCS, Kathleen served in several roles including as a CPS Investigator and as a Field Program Specialist. Kathleen received her Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology for Augusta University in 2012.

Second Presenter's Brief Biography

Gabrielle N. Morgan is the East Regional Coordinator for the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) Response Team, a program of the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia. Gabrielle has been with the CSEC Response Team since February 2022. As the East Regional Coordinator, Gabrielle provides intensive case management services and helps to serve as a liaison for members of the multi-disciplinary teams in DFCS Regions 7, 9, and 12. She is one of the central points of contact for agencies and survivors in order to create a more coordinated and effective system response in order to provide direct services for survivors in the form of assessments, case management, and advocacy. Gabrielle graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor Degree in Justice Studies and went on to complete a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology. Prior to joining the CSEC Response Team, Gabrielle spent four years with the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS). During her time with DFCS, Gabrielle served as a Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigator within DFCS Regions 7 & 12.

This presentation will focus on providing education on commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC), recognizing it's warning signs and effective interventions to take when CSEC is suspected. CSEC is a uniquely complex issue that affects not only the child's safety but can also have negative impacts on the youth's school performance and attendance. This presentation will also address peer recruitment where youth are coerced into recruiting other youth into CSEC activity which can frequently take place in schools. This presentation will give an overview of peer recruitment and how to identify/respond peer recruitment situations.

This presentation will provide of an overview of commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC), explore individual and community risk factors that place youth at risk for CSEC victimization and discuss effective interventions when CSEC is suspected.

This presentation will provide an overview of the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and will explore the risk factors and vulnerabilities that place youth at risk for CSEC victimization. This presentation will also discuss common "recruitment" techniques and explore the impact that CSEC can have on the individual student and the learning environment. This presentation will provide recommendations to consider and interventions to take when CSEC is suspected.

Evidence

The Children's Advocacy Centers of Georgia CSEC Response Team is the recognized enhanced collaborative model for responding to CSEC in Georgia and is guided by practices that are research focused and evidenced-based. Our team, in partnership with the 49 Child Advocacy Centers across Georgia, provide direct service delivery and crisis management services to CSEC victims across the state that are guided by evidence-based practices and the CAC model.
