Full Session Description

This session focuses on how to providing instruction using universal design for learning and developmentally appropriate practice, so that no matter how children process information, the lessons will be engaging for all. An environment that is universally designed for learning (UDL) shows children and teachers that there are multiple ways to be successful, multiple ways to solve problems, and multiple ways to learn from mistakes. NAEYC defines “developmentally appropriate practice” (DAP) as methods that promote each child’s optimal development and learning through a strengths-based, play-based approach to joyful, engaged learning. Using these two frameworks, we will examine how to support children’s engagement in learning by looking through a new lens.
