I work for child care resource and referral agency doing technical assistance for quality rated. I enjoy training and being influential in the ECE field. I have been in the early childhood field since 2001 and originate from NC. I have a bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University in B-K education. I love to spend time with family and be out in nature whenever possible.

Brief Session Description

This training is necessary for EC professionals to gain knowledge on how music can be incorporated into every aspect of learning. Training will also assist in curriculum planning that incorporates the GELDS.

EC professionals will be able to demonstrate how music can teach the whole child. They will get specific resources they can use to help lesson plan and learn how to incorporate it in their classroom.

  • Show video and have providers write down what learning domains do they see that the children can gain from music. Have a group discussion and use chart paper that’s labeled with each learning domain. Hang up eat page as the providers call it out. PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT AND MOTOR SKILLS, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, APPROACHES TO PLAY AND LEARNING, COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY, COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT (MATH, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES, CREATIVITY). What skills or techniques within each domain did we see? Explain that this was in the privacy of their own home and that in the classroom we will not be listening to Shakira. What is developmentally appropriate? What techniques can we use in the classroom to promote development using music? Basic kid’s songs that may seem old to us are brand new and exciting to young children. Objective 3:Chart a variety of activities that enable children to develop in all domains using music. Hand out papers with one learning domain on it. One for each small group. Provide time for small groups to come up with an activity and share it with the group. I will document their activities on one paper/board to have as a visual reference. Do you have any favorites? Show how to use this tool and how we can teach using music all times during the day. Explain that this is just one way children learn and that making sure to teach children individually and to their best learning styles that is developmentally appropriate.

I hope everyone had a great time today brainstorming together how we can educate the children in our care using more fun, active, musical activities.
