First Presenter's Brief Biography

Teacher, international speaker, trainer, published author, consultant, mentor/coach and educational leader, Dr. Miller is driven by a belief that all children deserve a world class education regardless of cultural or economic background. Dr. Queinnise Miller is an assistant professor of Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis Doctoral Program at University of Houston – Clear Lake. Even after more than 23 years as an educator, Dr. Queinnise Miller continues to have a passion for teaching, learning and leading. Her background is in English as a Second Language, Bilingual Education, and Foreign Language Instruction. Dr. Miller has served as a teacher and campus leader in Dallas ISD, Alief ISD & Cyfair ISD. Dr. Miller has served as a school Principal, Senior Manager for Leadership Development and as a Director in the Office of School Leadership in Houston ISD. She has trained and supported thousands of leaders at all levels with understanding the meaning of cultural and instructional leadership and its impact on developing exceptional leaders and teachers. Her proudest work has been that of a school elementary and secondary principal where she believes her job is to support and serve the people who make the magic happen, the people who really make the difference, teachers.

Brief Program Description

This session will build on the concept of culturally responsive caring and address how educators can teach, support and develop the whole child through addressing trauma and self care for our babies. Diving deeper into the book, The Art of Giving a $#!T which provides an opportunity for learners to learn strategies and tools for building strong relationships and see how they are executed in a real world setting, through heart felt, funny and interesting stories of a former teacher.

Learning Objective 1

Participants will be able to hear and share real life stories of scholars who battle trauma and self hate and learn how it impacts their ability to progress in school & life.

Learning Objective 2

Participants will be able to name 3-5 strategies that will help scholars push and thrive past excuses, fears and barriers that inhibit progress.

Learning Objective 3

Participants will practice having difficult conversations with appropriate responses to scholars who have experienced trauma or significant challenges, that promote empowerment, progress and positive relationships.
