Summary

Write the Book! How to Share Research and Promising Practices to Support Underserved Students

The needs of our students have grown exponentially in the last two years. Educators, community services and care givers are at a loss to support all of the academic, physical and emotional challenges our students are facing. Learn tips and processes for writing a book to share your research, experience and solutions to ensure the happiness and success of ALL students.

This session will provide clarity for any professional who aspires to share their research and experience on “what works with at-risk students” with others. It isn’t enough to throw starfish back one at a time. It is urgent that we share solutions that can help students overcome trauma and large academic gaps as quickly as possible.

Learning Outcomes for this session: Participants will

  • Acquire an outline and guidelines for completing a book proposal
  • Gain tips for determining the right audience for a book and how to stay focused on those roles
  • Receive practical wisdom on writing that first book
  • Identify the pros and cons of writing with a co-author
  • Discover how formatting and the use of predictable components can ensure a book is “reader-friendly”
  • Learn how to integrate current research into a book without losing the flow
  • Gain tips on finding your voice
  • Identify the pros and cons of self-publishing vs working with an established publisher

Get all of your questions answered on writing a book, editing, marketing the book, and presenting your work in professional learning situations. Experience the journey of a book from an idea to a published book on the shelf.
