I received my bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Affairs from Murray State University, in Kentucky and my Master of Social Work from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, in Illinois. I have spent the past thirteen years working with youth and their families focusing on the area of trauma and mental health. I currently work as a Mental Health Counselor for the Henderson County School District in Henderson, Kentucky.

I was born and raised in Henderson Ky, and received my Bachelor's Degree from Western Ky in Interdisciplinary Studies and Social Work, and received my Master's Degree in Counseling with a Speciality in a Mental Health. I have 11 years of expereince working with Children and Adloescents, and currently work for Henderson County Schools at a Mental Health Counselor.

Relevance
Social & Emotional Skills: We will be focusing on assisting school staff (teachers, administration, social workers, etc) on classroom specific coping skills and emotional management skills for students who have difficulty with trauma triggers and symptoms.
Mental & Physical Health: We will be providing baseline knowledge on how trauma impacts the brain, physical health, and mental health of the individual. We will discuss the trauma informed care model, and the trauma lens in regards to working with students.
Brief Program Description
Come learn about how trauma impacts our students, and hands on techniques on how to best support them.
Summary
We will be presenting on the Trauma Information Care Model. In this model we focus on identifying what trauma looks like and presents in our students. We also be sharing information in regards on how to utilize a Trauma Lens, the Invisible backpack, and common triggers for students who have experienced Trauma. Furthermore, we will provide information on how trauma and toxic stress can impact the brain and brain development.
We will be providing hands on and "take home" strategies for students who struggle with trauma triggers, emotional disregulation, and frustration management. We will be providing Cognitive Behavioral Approaches, PBIS/Mental Health Frameworks, and everyday Mindfulness techniques.
Evidence
We will be referencing University of Kentucky-Trauma Informed Care & Center for Trauma for Children and Families. This Model has been implemented in Henderson Count School system.
We will be using resources from books: Whole Brain, Whole Child; The CBT Toolbox; Mindfulness Skills, TARGET, & CBT Toolbox for Children & Adolescents.
We will also present Universal SCREENERS to help identify students with trauma histories: Adverse Childhood Experiences, Resiliency Screener, etc.
