Summary

This presentation will focus on the importance of building and leveraging strong relationships with all stakeholders groups. School culture and climate cannot be removed from the equation necessary to promote and sustain high levels of student growth and achievement. Students social-emotional needs must be met for the mind to be free to explore academic thought processes and higher-level thinking. The program will focus on ways to effectively engage community stakeholders in the learning progress. Further, concepts like greeting each student every morning combined with a nurturing and supportive learning environment will be explored. The school promotes the use of positive discipline referrals to reinforce positive behavior. Dr. Bolling believes in a school that supports the needs of all children. Through use of music, empathy, and high expectations, J. W. Adams Combined School has been able to close the achievement gaps for its students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged subgroups of the its student body. The presentation will also discuss the school's awards night program which brings businesses, community partners, students, and parents together for an annual celebration of academic growth.

The school has consistently exceeded all federal and state targets for accreditation. The school community does not rest upon these accomplishments, but rather views school improvement and student success as a continuous component of the school’s culture. The school and its faculty/staff are committed to student growth and doing what is best for each individual child.

Participants will be given access to articles written by Dr. Bolling related to school culture, meeting students' emotional needs, and sustained school improvement.
