Summary
Emotional poverty is a deterrent to equity and academic success. Research shows half the nation's children experience trauma, which has profound impacts on behaviors, relationships, mental health, and learning. Educators should understand the social-emotional needs of traumatized children to avoid using inept tactics and consequences. This session employs a practitioner-developed model to keep children engaged in academic settings for physical/emotional safety and in HOPE-centered groups, by navigating impacts of recent traumas.
