Relevance

The proposal relates to the social and emotional strand where I would be able to present information on the topics self esteem, communication and decision making. I am also able to relate the safety and prevention strand in my presentation in relation to conflict resolution. The key in having discussion on both strands is to introduce methods and resources to use to decrease any negative behaviors and lead to positive and productive in the youth.

Brief Program Description

Welcome to a presentation filled with useful tools and empowering education for youth in the areas of communication, conflict resolution and making decisions. The main objective is that each of you will leave here charged and ready to help our youth through fun, inspiring demonstrations shown and knowledge shared. The target audience of the information should be used with grades 6-12 in a school setting.

Summary

In the recent years there has been a decline in positive behaviors in our communities and a major increase in the negative behaviors. Society has highlighted so much of the negative events of our youth that it overshadows the good that is being produced. It is time to take a stand and shine the light on the great ways our youth are making a difference. My goal in my presentation is to introduce and reacquaint all attendees to various methods to gain the hearts of youth back to the basic foundations of being effective and productive individuals. Over the years I have used evidence based curriculums through programs and models with students and young adults. When using the strategies I work with the same individuals in efforts to monitor their progress over a 9 month time period. It has been shown through surveys and weekly interactions through facilitation, the positive outcomes that are made by the students. In each session all are students are made to feel as they belong, have the opportunity to be themselves and are given the opportunity to participate in hands on activities. The take home learning opportunities will be provided and demonstrated through my presentation and by working with partners and understanding how to implement the tools.

Evidence

The evidence of students achieving better grades and succeeding to the next grade and beyond has been a major part of the program in the inner city Atlanta schools. The high schools who partner with the program continually accepts and requests the program back into the school each year. School administrators have seen a decrease in behavior problems and an increase in effective communication.

Biographical Sketch

Fallon Lewis is an innovative and creative speaker connecting and engaging youth and young adults. With receiving a Bachelors in Sociology, Masters in Guidance and Counseling and currently pursuing her Specialist in Educational Leadership, her heart and passion is to help build a solid foundation in todays society. She has always been ready and equipped to serve the youth. Working in education the past 7 years has given her access to see first hand the many problems teachers, teens, families and the communities have experienced. In viewing some unfortunate situations it led her to creating and starting her own business in efforts to expand her knowledge and gift beyond the four walls of the classroom. During her years of working with nonprofits she was able to facilitate life skills lessons in front of federal observers and achieve national certification and a continuation in funding. Fulfilling her passion working with youth on their communication, decisions and conflict resolution has gained a huge success and outcome of the participants. Providing the youth with the necessary tools will create an effective and productive society and community.
