Abstract
Investigated the potential relationship between the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and level of empathetic responding. 49 graduate students in counseling education completed the MBTI, the Carkuff Accurate Empathy Rating Scale (R. R. Carkuff, 1969), and a demographic questionnaire. The Thinking-Feeling scale of the MBTI was significantly associated with ratings of empathy. Sex, race, and GPA, but not age, were also related significantly to empathetic responding.
