Abstract
Relational and entity-relationship data models are important concepts covered in database and systems analysis and design courses. Entity-relationship model is widely used in conceptual database design. However, ERD is error-prone for novice database designers. An interactive Java Applet tool is developed to show the connection between relational and entity relationship data models. A survey was used to evaluate the usefulness of the tool. Eighty-nine students participated in this study. Survey results show that students' perception of the tool is more positive than the textbook method for learning data modeling.
