Implementing PBIS in Summer Programs
Presentation Abstract
PBIS is one of Bibb County School District's non-negotiables. Therefore, PBIS was an integral component of our Summer Opportunity Program. There was a mixture of students and teachers from various middle school sites across the district. In order to establish "One Team, One Voice", we implemented PBIS to create a common language and positive culture for students and teachers. This common language and culture was achieved through the development and usage of various tools such as a school-wide matrix, classroom matrices, acknowledgement plan, teacher handbook, and PBIS in the Classroom Module I training.
Daily attendance was a targeted behavior because students were preparing for a re-test of the GA Milestones. This re-test determined their promotion to 9th grade. To promote strong student attendance, it was one criteria for event entry.
This presentation content can be used by parents to assist in establishing rules and procedures for home. We used community partners to help assist us monetarily for teacher and student rewards during the four-week program.
