Brief Biography

Since 2012, Tara L. Davis is a PBIS Program Specialist working for the Georgia Department of Education. Tara earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in May of 1998 and a Master of Arts and Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Psychology in May of 2011 from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Tara started Educational Leadership coursework in January of 2009 at the University of South Florida located in Tampa, Florida. Previously, she served as a Florida PBIS District Coordinator for the 58th largest district in the nation. She also supported several elementary and secondary schools as a Response to Intervention (RtI) Coach in which she provided training and ongoing coaching for the development and implementation of Multi-Tiered Support Systems (MTSS). Prior to moving to Florida, she was a PBIS Coach for a Title One school is Salt Lake City, Utah, and a School Psychologist in Gastonia, North Carolina. As a National Certified School Psychologist, she has extensive experience and expertise in PBIS, coaching and implementation science, assessment, problem-solving and systems-level change.

Presentation Abstract

This presentation will discuss how Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an application of a behaviorally-based systems approach to enhance the capacity of schools, families, and communities to design effective environments that improve the link between research-validated practices and the environments in which teaching and learning occur. Participants will be able to: (1) define PBIS; (2) identify the core components of PBIS; (3) understand the research that supports PBIS; and (4) understand implementation components. The presenter will provide examples from Georgia schools implementing PBIS and outcome data.
