The collapse of the housing market played an integral role in the economic recession of 2007-09 and the concurrent financial crisis. Though many people perceive the recent slowdown in home price declines as a much needed reprieve from the ubiquitous uncertainty surrounding Europe and the domestic economy, the housing market remains one of the most pervasive drags on the U.S. jobs market and anemic GDP growth.
