About the Collections

Collections preserve materials collected by Dr. Delma E. Presley, Georgia Southern University Professor Emeritus and Museum Director Emeritus, for his research of the history and culture of the South Georgia region. The collection is composed of two groups:

Francis Harper papers

Includes the papers of Cornell-trained naturalist Dr. Francis Harper. Materials span 1912-1952 and include field notebooks, correspondence, photographs, and audiovisual materials documenting the plant life and culture of the Okefenokee Swamp. Materials were given by the Harper estate for the use in the writing of Okefinokee Album (sic) published by the University of Georgia Press in 1981.

Georgia Land and Lumber Company records

Includes ledgers and other materials documenting land lots in south central Georgia owned by the company in the late nineteenth century.
