Critical Race Theory: What it Is, What it Isn't, and It's Real World Applications
Abstract
In recent years, discussions of Critical Race Theory (CRT) have taken the country by storm. Whether posted on social media, broadcast over mainstream media, or discussed in school board meetings nationwide, the topic of CRT has caused a firestorm of controversy that has further polarized an already divided country. Perhaps not surprisingly, most the commentary around CRT have been distortions of its tenets and mischaracterizations of its aims. In this panel, we seek to clarify the conversation around CRT by hearing from scholars and practitioners who actually use the framework to guide their research and work. By addressing what CRT is, what it isn't, and how it's actually used in the real world, this panel hopes to defend CRT from the assault of propaganda that has vilified it.
