Re-Thinking Rubrics for Assessing Personal and Professional Development

Abstract

“Rubrics help educators specify behaviors that demonstrate learning and serve as a means of communicating those standard to learners (Stenzel, 2005).” How do students-in- training recognize and retain those behaviors and competencies as they progress through their curriculum? How do educators in the helping profession ensure that the behaviors demonstrated are relevant and practical given the ever changing landscape due to technology, change in policies, procedures, etc? This session explores the benefits of incorporating a rubric that assesses the personal and professional development of students as they progress through their curriculum. Examples of various rubrics will be presented.
