Abstract
Students in general chemistry often have trouble because not only do they not understand the concepts, but they also do not understand the questions the concepts explain or their significance. I have developed a simple classroom demonstration which illustrates the idea of the atom and continuous versus discontinuous matter. The demonstration also can be used to introduce the concept of wave-particle duality.
