Abstract
In honor of Labor Day, the Department of History and the Fashion, Merchandising, and Design program will present a virtual panel discussion, "Unravelling the Seams: History, Economics, and Social Justice in the Garment Industry" on Wednesday, September 8th at 7pm. Georgetown University Professor Pietra Rivoli will talk about her bestseller, The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy (2005, 2009, 2014). Georgia Southern Professor Michelle Haberland will provide an overview of the history of the garment industry. Rebecca Blake Thompson, Sustainable Fashion consultant and industry activist, will round out the panel with a discussion of equity and the challenges workers face in the contemporary garment industry. Georgia Southern Professor Addie Martindale will introduce the panel and History students will moderate the Q&A.
