Presented at 2018 Division on Career Development and Transition International Conference
Functional skills such as literacy are critical for obtaining and sustaining successful employment, but individuals with ID are at risk for very low literacy levels. This session will address research on providing text comprehension strategies and supports for young adults with ID on an adapted employee handbook. Using principles of Universal Design, this adapted text allows the reader to access essential workplace policies and procedures that may aid in successful employment.
